Exercises

[crunch image] One of my favorite pastimes are exercises. I have a very good reason for spending a lot of time doing all sorts of exercises. Although I haven't written that part yet, I managed to injure my lower back in a major way. Years of neglect, and not knowing the extent of my injury, it got progressively worse.

When returning from Russia in 1990 (My 2nd visit), I was diagnosed as having degenerative lumbar disc, which if allowed to continue would have resulted in me not being able to walk anymore. I was given two years, by two independent medical professionals. That, my friend, was my "Wake up call".... I was given two choices, both rather expensive, but I had to choose one; Extensive physical therapy, or Spine fusion operation

The fusion operation would have cost me $20,000, and hospitalization for 4 months. So, it was obvious that therapy was my choice.

It turned out that one of my previous clients work through a chiropractor and personal trainer, so I managed a 2 year co smaller muscle groups so they can take the load away from my weak areas.

For flexibility, I try and flex every part of my body to the limits of motion. I do this BOTH in exercises and dancing. Although I don't spend a lot of time doing "Static" Yoga positions, I do enough of them to keep me as limber as possible.

For endurance, I dance at raves, run up hills, etc. Raving has a lot to do with an amazing amount of insurance. Literally getting involved with the music, letting it take total control over my body, and maintaining it for the long 2 hour DJ sets non-stop, has a lot to do with my amazing increase of insurance.

In the beginning, just after the Toon Town raves, I could only dance for about 5 minutes before getting so sore I couldn't walk for days. AS my personal training started to increase, my raving and dancing times improved over a two year period.

I remember joining the SFRaves mailing list, to get info on the best raves to attend. after finding a rich assortment of raves in my area, I tried to go to every one of them. Now I go to about 3/ week, but it's not uncommon for me to go to 4 /week.
